A special Day.

Today was our twelfth wedding anniversary - the glorious twelfth, no grousing allowed!
We had a day out.
We visited a bike factory outlet, in Erdington, then took the scenic route to Hatton Locks.
We walked about 3 miles to the bottom of the 21 locks, & back again, then on to the cafe for pumpkin & parsnip soup.
This was all great, apart from my pedometer dropping off in the loo at the cafe & going blank before I had read it.
The good point was that it was still under the S bend 10 minutes later, when I realised that I had lost it.
Going down was 5623 paces, up again was probably about the same.
Photo 1 is especially for Elaine!
We took G's new flask & sachets of coffee - he filled it himself!
This final photo encapsulates his pleasure in this "senior moment"
We stopped in Solihull & bought some special food to cook for a celebratory dinner.

The flight of locks at Hatton is called the 'stairway to heaven' rising 45 metres with 21 locks in 2 miles. The canal was widened at some point so the old narrow locks can also be seen adjacent to the newer ones. Inpressive engineering project! canal was used fir taking tomato puree to the HP factory in Brum amongst other things. Quite motivatial for G's sermon tomorrow on Jude the Obscure. (Thaddeus in case there is any doubt). G

Congratulations.
Good to see that you are embrasing that essential accessory for the OAP , the thermos flask.
What was the special food, was it something denture friendly?

I guessed that you would like that one - G was delighted with his flask - it has a very intuitive pouring system. The teaspoon did rattle in the steel cups during the journey - one to solve before the next "day out".

The food was all chosen for its antioxidant/fibre content & its aphrodisiac properties.
It was inspirational!

Congratulations on breaking the 12 year barrier- we are only at 7- 5 years behind.

Was Rolf Harris performing at Hatton?

Can you tell what it is yet?

You could always use your GPS instead of a pedometer? Is that set to gather dust now?

We bought a Thermos flask in the summer- we are very proud of it.

Have you seen the Only Fools and Horses episode with the "Tartan Dildo- that's my Thermos" line?

I don't understand the "Rolf Harris" comment.
G is NOT an OAP,short for "senior citizen", but is getting in training for that milestone, many moons yet to go!
Lapworth has only about 5 locks, I believe.
I was still suffering from motion/bike shop sickness when this photo took its self, hence the frown.
I recovered completely shortly afterwards.
